shameless self-googlage

Mon 30 Apr 2007

I've been Googling myself. Actually found some good stuff for a change... Thought it might be nice to return some links.

  1. Check out Human Thing on this mix next to lots of.. tech-metal would you call it? I'm listening to it now - it's fun :) You might like it Marcus. Monday Mixtape - Soundtrack to the overthrow of the megacorp - from the Closet Geek Show

  2. Here's Carter Willett reading a poem about turkeys over That Yawning Hollow Void: AudioLingo 72: Special Turkeys

  3. Here I am on You Are Hear presented by Magz Hall - Nov 2006 - I met Magz in real life last night :-)

  4. They talked about me here on SonicState: Podcast: Sonic TALK - 019. Has anybody responded to the challenge to do something similar to my video in Ableton Live yet..? Here's the blog entry on Create Digital Music: Live 6 Video Features May Inspire Bizarre New Ableton YouTube Culture

  5. I got a play on 'No Other Radio Network - still available to download here: NOR 7/4 - July 2006

  6. Oh yeah, and this one grooveTEK Chillout Session 12

And I think that's just about everyone that's ever talked about me on the internet.

This didn't really work out...

I wish I could get a long thin screen (1600x800 perhaps) that I could rotate to make a big tall virtual rack. But I don't this idea would work without the racky screen being touch sensitive. It's too hard to use the mouse on it.

Second monitor would be really good for live - I find it quite claustrophobic on that one screen - especially since I'm running 12 channels in Ableton Live.

Mumblemumble tired mumblemumble. Off to Gun's&Horses later.

The best thing about it as far as I'm concerned is the fact you can SUBSCRIBE TO LISTINGS VIA GOOGLE CALENDAR. So now you don't just have to subscribe to my poxy feed, you can get a proper listing. And the 'related events' seems fairly accurate too.

Here are mine on there.

By the way - those pictures on the Installation posters - I didn't do the horse ones. I receive those images via MSN Messenger. The artist 'is known within the company [LBi] and hence wears a horse head mask to preserve his anonymity'.

Here is the series on flickr: flickr.com/photos/horsemanproject

..in creatively good ways :-)
Here's the latest from Dewex: "brandfill" - it's somewhat insane, and surprisingly slick.

And from Suzywan: "Time is space".

You have to take a look on it. On both of its.

...life kicks you in the bollocks. Most people recover. Some people go sterile;* they give up.

So for a while it feels like searing agony, but you always know that it's gonna die down sooner or later.

Gabriel Garcia Marquez always has characters that don't recover - instead they cling to the experience that changed them and never let go. The bride in Chronicle of a Death Foretold, or the woman who becomes a bitter seamstress after her disappointment with the pianola player in 100 Years of Solitude. I find those characters compelling but ultimately frustrating; how could they let days turn to weeks turn to years turn to decades like that, without moving on?

Armando Iannucci has the entire human genome taped to his wall like a freize. ATGGGTACCCTAGA, it says. He says it contains the code for human life. Well - stuff to do with what eye colour you'll have, or how long your legs. Nothing to do with higher level things like whether you'll grow up to like jazz, or whether you'll be a twat (that's mostly a result of education). In the middle of his freize, he points out a curious section - AGGTCCTATAA CCATTDONTPISSITAWAYCGTTTAACC TTGGDONTPISSITAWAYCGGDDTTDDAAGDTA. The scientists say 'don't read too much into that'.

*Kurt Vonnegut, God rest his soul, was against semi-colons. I hesitate to use them since I found that out. Now I've decided I like them. Sorry Kurt. And I like hyphens too. I also like beginning sentences with words like 'so' or 'and'. I also quite like tautology in a sentence. Makes it cute.

Um, so it's Easter weekend and I realised I really have to organise things to do or I'll spend it all lonely. Especially since my Grandma blew me out... (sympathy vote? moi?) So there's a Mavryx* on Friday night, Sunday's taken care of (friends). So Saturday I'll have to work something out. And perhaps come up with contigency plans due to the fact that people are so RUBBISH at remembering things or coming out!

Had an interesting weekend actually - including seeing a totally pointless protest with equally pointless riot police presence on Holloway Road, and a couple of okayish bands on Friday. And a good night on Saturday including the fun experience of Raymond Scott's Sprite Ad song being played by the DJ and then coming on my ipod on my way home.

I've been going to this poetry night in the Oh! Bar on Camden High Street on Mondays. Some of it's quite good, and the bad stuff makes me think 'I should perhaps consider doing something'. I got my friend to read a bit out of my diary the other week. That was pretty.. I dunno what it was. Certainly wasn't something I ever imagined anybody reading. And it has *such* an unhappy ending! I think if I say anything myself I may favour the humerous over the intensely depressive.. I should practice that on here!

I registered on Facebook and Orkut in the last couple of weeks. I can't be bothered with all that profile editing though!

Bye.

Went to Ed's Overdog release party last night - thought I'd do my bit and mention on here that if you go to myspace.com/animalfactrecords then you can download various albums for free. I'm listening now - it's some good stuff.
